A DAY OUT

It’s been a wild year and a half or so… Yeah, it’s been a while!

Being stuck inside wasn’t the worst thing for me, in fact, I’m quite the homebody. I never felt the NEED to go outside. The risk always seemed worse than the reward. With that being said, I’ve been itching to go on an adventure… a hike upstate, a trip to somewhere in Europe or Japan. That hasn’t worked out just yet, but a quick few trips to the city was a good consolation prize. Well, at least till my first ever trip to Disney World in May.

So, having some new equipment… My new(ISH) iPhone 11 Pro Max and my M1 MacBook Pro… It was about time I put these bad boys to use. Outside of taking photos and videos at home of new records and figures (some of which you can actually check out over in the Photo Gallery), I haven’t really been able to fully put my camera to use. Going out with the gang was going to be fun.

We checked out the Tamashii Nations Pop-Up Store in midtown Manhattan. We went to Shake Shack, which was actually a first for me.. Believe it or not. Along with the obligatory stop at Forbidden Planet (Comic Book Store), we also hit up Toy Tokyo. Our last stop would be Limited to One Record Store. If you’re a vinyl head, that place is a MUST!

A second trip to the city would take us to S’mac, one of the best Mac N Cheese spots I’ve ever been to. After another stop at Forbidden Planet, we decided to call it a day. An almost 70 degree, Saturday afternoon in NYC pretty much equals EVERYONE is outside. A little too much for our liking. No one’s trying to catch covid, ESPECIALLY with only a few weeks to my trip to Disney. Just imagine how the train going home would look like. BIG NOPE!

A third mini-trip for me and Kayla would start us out at Kinokuniya, a Japanese book store. We’d hit up Shake Shack again… OBVIOUSLY. Our (as stated before), obligatory stop at Forbidden Planet, then a stop at Blick (an art store), then a final stop at Melissa’s to see if Kayla could find flats. In case you were wondering, yeah, she found flats.

I probably should’ve taken WAY more shots of the city, but I’m never one to have my phone out the whole time I’m out an about with people. Something I might have to start doing if I want to keep making kick-ass videos. But, I captured what I captured and made a 1 minute video about a day (or a few days) out with people who are very special to me. It was nice to sit down and work with all of the new tools at my disposal. I’ve always loved making videos on Final Cut Pro, so having a brand new, super fast and powerful laptop, sweet looking camera footage, and some CRAZY plug-ins made this experience super fun.

I found a perfect song that sort of matched the mood, and encapsulated the tone I was trying to get across. That song was “Stranger” by Hands Like Houses, an Australian rock band. I’ve known them for almost 10 years now. Their music is awesome and they’re super cool people, so you should totally check them out.

Despite a LITTLE, I guess we’ll call it, mistake, I’m super happy with how the video came out. Of course, I’m almost never happy with my work though. The cool part, is that with each video I make, I learn a lot more about editing and film-making. I’m never content with what I currently know, so I’m always watching videos that give me tips and such. This is a fun journey.

Not much is planned till the aforementioned Disney trip coming up in a few weeks. I’ve been brainstorming ideas on how I want to approach making that upcoming video(s). We just bought a GoPro Hero 9 Black, so I’m hoping to get some REALLY cool footage on rides over there. I’ll also be making sure the gang gets me as much B-roll as possible on that trip. I’m going to be relying on then quite a bit, because in all honesty, I don’t know how much footage I’ll actually record on my phone being that this is my first time EVER at Disney World, and I know I’m going to be overwhelmed as all f**k!

ANYWHO… You can check out “A Day Out” by heading over to SFTV ! Make sure you hit the subscribe button when you get there so you don’t miss out on the Disney video(s)!
